Tokyo's Public Transit System Gets Snubbed the No.1 Spot Again...
Tokyo's public transit gets ranked no. 7 in Urban Mobility's annual ranking, but it clearly deserves the top spot!
Tokyo's public transit system has just been ranked one of the best in the world.
That's a feat any city should be proud of, except Tokyo…
According this year’s Oliver Wyman Forum – Urban Mobility Readiness index’s public transit ranking, Tokyo comes in seventh place in 2022:
Hong Kong
Zurich
Stockholm
Singapore
Helsinki
Oslo
Tokyo
Too be honest, it’s not a good representation of the cities, as Tokyo by far the largest city on the list, both in area and population size. Tokyo is for example eight times larger than the entire country of Singapore, and yes, has better access to its entirety than Singapore…
Some more justified criticism in the report is that the transit is a bit daunting, especially for tourists. However, i’d say that’s more likely because Tokyoites expect more information displayed on their subway systems. Information in Tokyo’s subway platforms includes which train cars you should enter to exit your destination the fastest, all lines and all famous monuments near each station, all station any express line does not stop at, and the exact cost of each station in comparison to yours.
In a world where cities are constantly vying for the title of "best public transit system," Tokyo is truly the clear winner. The Japanese capital's extensive network of trains, buses, and subways has been hailed as the most efficient and reliable in the world, making it a model for other cities to follow.
Tokyo's public transit system covers almost every part of the city, with more than 400 train stations and a network of trains, buses, and subways that make it easy for residents and visitors to get around. The trains and buses are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and they run frequently, so you don't have to wait long for a ride.
Additionally, the system is known for its reliability, with trains and buses running on time and routes that are carefully planned to minimize delays. This means that you can plan your trips with confidence, knowing that you will be able to get where you need to go quickly and easily.
But Tokyo's public transit system is not just about convenience and reliability. It is also an important part of the city's culture and identity. The trains and buses are a vital part of daily life in Tokyo, and they are a key part of the city's economic and social fabric.
So if you're planning a trip to Tokyo, be sure to take advantage of the city's world-class public transit system. You'll be amazed by how easy it is to get around, and you'll quickly see why Tokyo is considered to have the best public transit system in the world.
